Rwanda’s long-term development plan, as articulated in Vision 2020, seeks to transform Rwanda into a middle-income country by the year 2020. Research and analysis have shown that the development of the service sector as the key pillar of the economy will help achieve the goals of Vision 2020. Tourism has been and is the current leading industry in the sector; however, the following industries have the largest potentials for propelling Rwanda into the next knowledge base economy and firmly establish Rwanda as the services hub in Africa: education, BPO-ICT, financial services, logistics, healthcare services and creative industries. In order to promote and support the development of these industries within the services sector, the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) is conducting various activities such as: Identifying and developing opportunities for private sector investment in the sector Advocating for policy improvement in the investment climate of this sector Developing projects to catalyze private sector involvement in the sector Providing targeted strategic support to companies in the sector Attracting strategic international investors in the sectors Promoting Export in the sectors One of the conduits to achieve some of the above objectives is the annual Services Investment Forum (SIF). The forum will serve as a platform to: Showcase trade and investment opportunities in the sectors to international investors Facilitate business to business (B2B) discussions Discuss policy issues related to the sectors in order to improve the business environment; and Learn on best practices from regional and international countries
